IN THE BEGINNING, there was…Oh wait, went back too far! A number of years ago, Kara Carpenter was born in Indiana. She was a straight-A student who was not sure what to do with her life, so she became a CPA and worked her way up to Vice President of Financial Planning for an insurance company.
When she wasn’t working, she would read, journal, sing (slightly off-key), dance, travel, and hang out with friends and family. She also loved trying new things: skydiving, hang gliding, riding horses, snorkeling with sharks, jumping off telephone poles, etc. You know, just a typical accountant.
Then one year she wrecked her car, she broke up with her boyfriend of seven years, and her house burned down. That was her wake-up call. Well, it should have been. Actually, she and a friend went to Aruba…yada, yada, yada…and eventually her house was rebuilt and she resumed her comfortable life.
But at a silent retreat one year, she realized something was missing. She felt restless and wanted a change. While at the retreat, she received a message to “wake people up.” Years later, she wrote a book called Wake Up to Powerful Living. By then, she had met and married an amazing man named Rick Lane. He stole her heart when he told her, “I can’t stop thinking about you…and it’s pissing me off because I can’t get anything done.”
One day, she was driving her Mustang GT (“Bullitt”), when an Eagles song came on the radio. The lyrics to “Already Gone” spoke to her: “So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key.” So she did the only logical thing she could do. She resigned from the career she had spent her whole life building, took a trip to the Dominican Republic with her husband to celebrate her freedom, and began to think about her next career.
While she was still trying to figure out what to do with her life, she was approached by the owner of a modeling agency and asked to model. So she did, for about a year. Then she got her coaching certification. Then she started writing.
Writing had always helped her clarify her thoughts, so she wrote Simoni’s Gift. It is a story about finding your purpose in life. And she did. Her purpose is to learn, improve, achieve, and contribute. Her goal is to fulfill her potential while helping others fulfill theirs. Writing is one way she does that.
The next book she wrote was From Photographer to Gallery Artist, which provides detailed guidance on how photographers can find gallery representation for their fine art photography. The guide helps photographers with their personal and professional development.
Her latest book is The Smart Woman’s Guide to Style & Clothing. It contains a complete system for creating an ideal wardrobe by helping women focus on versatility, style, and personalization. By following the Style & Clothing System, women shop more mindfully and buy only what makes them look and feel their best.
After her fourth book, she was debating about what to write next. Her greatest strengths are research, analysis, organization, and communication – all skills that have helped her solve personal and business problems. So…she is currently working on a book about problem-solving. Among other things, her research will include interviewing people about their problems. So if you’re interested in participating, contact her at [email protected]ne.com and let her know: What’s your problem?
